1st Thanksgiving in Sydney!

There's something about Thanksgiving, no matter where I am, I have to celebrate it.  In 2009 when I was studying abroad in Dublin, I hosted two Thanksgiving dinners and they were amazing.  So as I was spending Thanksgiving here in Sydney, I knew I had to host another dinner.

As with Dublin, it was not an easy feat to get a Turkey at the end of November.  Of course, there were plenty of turkeys coming in for Christmas, but that wasn't going to help me.  I went to all the major grocery stores and asked the butcher/meat section if I could get a turkey. They all looked at me like I was crazy.  One place, IAG said sure, he'd take my number and call me back. Never did. Luckily my flatmate Kel was able to get one at the local butcher. It wasn't a huge turkey, but hey, I take what I can get.

So I took that Thursday off and started cooking. I basted the turkey in beer and it turned out great!

I made mashed potatoes, pumpkin mac and cheese and stuffing. Other people brought other yummy dishes like pumpkin pie, ham, sweet potato and of course wine.

It was a great day with yummy food and great company.  I got to share Thanksgiving with my flatmates, my Irish friends and my American friends.

Everyone ate heaps of food and we were all stuffed afterwards. I enjoyed days of leftovers.
